Lovely fellow Bobcat, Carolyn Drake has a stunning series over at Women in Photography as part of a guest curated series of WiPs. Very smart indeed. And special guest curator Sarah Bay Williams, of LACMA has selected a veritable doozie. Carolyn’s work, Paradise Rivers, depicts:
the rivers from their source in the Pamir and Tien Shen mountains, downstream, and across borders to their dwindling ends at the Aral Sea basin, crossing into the lives of people and layers of history that they intersect along the way. The journey reveals Central Asia as a place where the connection between the earth and human life is at once plainly visible and complex, where human yearning and time come together, and progress is not bound to a linear path.
Kudos SB Williams for picking Carolyn Drake. I really enjoyed this work. Carolyn continues to deliver the goods. It makes one wonder why they even bother.
